Preparing Your Home For Sale

Preparing your home to sell is sometimes very overwhelming and daunting.  Fortunately, I am a Realtor that assists all of my clients throughout the entire process, from helping to prepare the home for listing to after they have moved out and moved in to their new dream home.

Here are some tips that I think help with preparing your home for sale:

  • Get rid of the clutter!  This can include too much furniture, so try to edit as many pieces as you can to make a space look larger, however be sure not to take too much out, you still want the space to have a feeling of warmth
  • Tidy up closets and keep the floor clear, potential buyers will always open closet doors
  • To make a room feel larger, paint adjacent rooms the same colour
  • Painting rooms especially living rooms, dining rooms and family rooms in a neutral colour, helps to make the space feel “fresh” and large, it also helps to make outdated finishes not look as outdated
  • Bold paint colours on walls have a certain way of reducing offers, so try and avoid those bright colours when preparing to sell

One of the most frequent questions I am asked is, what are the best neutral wall colours to use for re-sale, here are some of my recommendations from the Benjamin Moore paint collection:

Revere Pewter (HC-172)

Muslin (CC-110)
